Two Ways to Experience God’s Love

Beth Jones

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16

Knowing and believing. Two really important basics.

Do you know the love God has for you?
Do you believe in the love God has for you?

This is so basic and yet so huge. Many of us struggle with knowing and believing the love God has for us. Instead, we have facts about God’s love in our head, but we don’t know and believe it for ourselves and we end up feeling alone, isolated, rejected, invisible, abandoned and disconnected from God and His love. Let’s allow the Lord to reverse these things within us.

1. Let’s start with “knowing the love God has for us.”

We know God is love. But, what does that even mean?

God’s definition of love in 1 Corinthians 13 is this: “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance…love will last forever!”

That means; we know God is patient and kind…toward you. God is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude…toward you. He does not demand His own way…with you. He is not irritable and keeps no record of being wronged…by you. He does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out…in you. He never gives up…on you, never loses faith…in you, is always hopeful…about you, and endures through every circumstance…with you. God will last forever…loving you.

Did you get all of that? Now you know the love God has for you!

2. Let’s end with “believing the love God has for us.”

Believing it is a choice. We can choose to believe this today. We may not feel an emotional, warm fuzzy regarding God’s love, but we can choose to believe it, regardless of how we feel.

Let’s just decide to believe the love God has for us––today! Say this out loud with me…

Say It: “I know God is patient and kind…toward me. God is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude…toward me. He does not demand His own way…with me. He is not irritable and keeps no record of being wronged…by me. He does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out…in me. He never gives up…on me, never loses faith…in me, is always hopeful…about me, and endures through every circumstance…with me. God will last forever…loving me.”

Wow! What does that do in you?

I encourage you to say this numerous times a day this week––knowing and believing it––and you will experience it in a greater measure!
