A Heavenly Vision

Jeff Jones

"Where there is no vision, the people perish…." Proverbs 29:18, KJV

Do you have a vision for your life? What does it look like? Another translation of the word “vision” is “revelation.” The actual Hebrew word is better translated as “redemptive revelation.” I think we could all use a little redemptive revelation – a healthy dose of heavenly revelation of what God wants us to do with our lives! He says that if we don’t have a clear vision we’ll perish. Other translations of that phrase say, “cast off restraints,” or “run wild.” I don’t know about you, but I don’t mind a little restraint in my life, and I certainly don’t want to run wild because people who tend to run wild usually end up crashing.

Jesus was all about following a heavenly vision. He said, I’m not here to do My will, but the will of Him who sent Me. When the disciples saw a natural field ready for harvest, Jesus saw a world full of hurting people who needed a shepherd. When others saw the cross as a sign of death, He saw it as the launching pad of life.

Paul had a vision from God for his life and in Acts 26:19 he said, “Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.” He knew the vision that God had for him, and he set his sights on fulfilling it. That’s exactly what God wants us to do.

So, where do we begin? Get with God and get His vision for your life. Then do what He tells us to do in Habakkuk 2:2, “Then the LORD answered me and said: 'Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.'” It’s that easy – get the vision, write it down, and make it plain enough that you can run with it. Then give it everything you have.

After all, nothing compares to living your life for the purpose of fulfilling God’s vision for you!

Say It: “God, I have got to know Your vision for my life! I don’t want to live another day wondering what You have for me. I’m going to let go of my vision, grab onto Yours, and hold onto it until the very end. Every day I’m going to keep my sights set on following Your vision for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
