God's Eye Contact

Beth Jones

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye." Psalm 32:8, NKJV

Did your mom have eyes in the back of her head? Or maybe a certain teacher? God does, too! In fact, God's eyes search to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on the behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9). God has eyeballs on everyone and everything.

Be encouraged by that. You have not been forgotten or overlooked. He sees you! He's given us some promises we can take to the bank regarding this fact.

If you're in a season and you don't know what to do or which way to go, take comfort in knowing the Lord will instruct you – if you'll listen to His Word – and show you the way to go. Not only that, He promises to guide us with His eye.

Think about that. Ever been in the store and looked down the aisle to see your kids misbehaving? Did you give them the "eye?" They knew exactly what to do when they saw your "eye" – didn’t they? How about making eye contact with your spouse? Ever been at a party and your spouse "guided" you with his or her eye? You didn't need words did you? You know exactly what those eyes are saying! Maybe you winked at your friend, son or daughter before their big game, and that wink told them you were praying and rooting for them. Eyes can tell us a lot!

How cool that God guides us with His eye! Maybe we need to take better note of the "eye contact" God is making with us. There is just one the natural, we can't see His eyeballs; so, we need supernatural help. We need God to open up the "eyes of our hearts" so that we can see His eyes.

Thankfully, this is something He will do. The apostle Paul prayed this very thing for the believers in Ephesus. Look at this prayer, "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you...," Ephesians 1:18, NIV.

Today, let's pray that the Lord enlightens the eyes of our heart so that we can see His eyes guiding us into the hope to which He has called us.

Say It: “Father, I thank You that You will instruct me and teach me in the way that I should go. I am so glad that You guide me with Your eye. I pray that You open the eyes of my heart, so that I can discern the 'eye contact' and guidance I receive from You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
