The Above Life

Jeff Jones

"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth." Colossians 3:2, NKJV

Have you ever spent time thinking about living the kind of life that God intended for you to live? What would your life look like – one that is full and satisfying, a life lived without regrets? No matter what your past is, you can have that life; it’s the “Above Life!”

It’s the life that Jesus said He came to bring us. It’s the life that lives above the circumstances and above the negativity of the world. A life above normal, above average – a life that honors and pleases God. So how does a person live a life like that? Well, this verse in Colossians tells us where it all starts. It starts when we start thinking right. God tells us to “set our minds on things above.” Now God would never tell us to do something that we couldn’t do, so it must be possible to determine and control the course, pattern and direction of our thinking.

If we don’t start thinking above, we’ll never live above. We’ll live like the rest of the world lives. We’ll live in the now, the negative, the not possible, the no-way no-how because that’s the way we think.

So, stop it. Stop thinking negatively and always seeing yourself as a failure. Stop looking at the glass half empty and see it nearly full. Stop the pattern of negative thinking and replace it with positive thoughts. Who said you can’t do that thing you’ve always wanted to do? Who said you could never accomplish that goal or dream? Don’t let any devil in hell or any person here on earth plant a thought in your mind that you can’t do something. Remove any thought from that head of yours that you’re stuck living a life below your potential. It’s time to rise up, think positive and live the “Above Life.” It’s yours for the taking, and the secret to your success lies in that space between your right and left ear, just north of your neck.

So, start seeing yourself as an above person, an above employee, an above friend, an above parent, and even an above giver – live the Above Life!

Say It: “Father, I believe it’s Your desire that I live the Above Life. Help me to clamp down on negative and destructive thinking. Help me to see beyond the humdrum, boring kind of life. Help me to see the life You want me to live – a life full of adventure and excitement – a life that rises above. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
