Saved By Grace

Alexa Jones

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10

Everybody loves gifts - especially around Christmas. We make our lists, send subtle hints and wait expectantly for what we will open on Christmas morning. I’m reminded this year as Christmas is over that the best gift we could ever receive is God’s gift of salvation. It’s the gift of all gifts! And just like when we give the ones we love something special, it’s not based on how good they are, but simply how much we love them. God’s gift of salvation isn’t based on our goodness, but on His.

Ephesians 2:8 says it’s by grace we’ve been saved through faith. We could never earn it! God in His goodness not only gave us the free gift of salvation, but also created us as his workmanship (some translations say masterpiece) for good works that He has already prepared us for. We’re not saved by works, but we are saved for works. Let’s look at three ways how Ephesians 2:8-10 can play out in our lives in as we head into 2017.

1. Saved By Grace
We’re saved by God’s grace through faith alone. This new year, let that truth brand your heart and sink deep down into your everyday life. You can’t work for it, you don’t have to be good enough and you definitely can’t earn it. It’s a free gift - just receive it and watch how thankfulness fills your heart rather than the feeling of needing to perform for God’s love.

2. For Good Works
You weren’t saved by works, but you were created for them! God handcrafted you and created you with a unique purpose and destiny. Ephesians 2:10 says you were created in Christ Jesus for good works. He ordained all of your days and wrote them in a book before one of them came to be (Psalms 136:19). God knows everything about you and still wants to work through you.

3. Walk In Them
Now is the time. This year is your year! 2017 is the year where like Ephesians 2:10 says, you walk in the works God prepared for you. This year, may you walk further in God’s calling, purposes, grace and plans in your life. Stop ruling yourself out because of fear or feelings of inadequacy - take a step of faith, get some grit and walk confidently into your God-given future!

When you realize you’re saved by God’s grace through faith, it allows you to walk freely and live your life unto Him not with a performance mentality, but rather a heart full of gratitude and joy doing the good works He’s created you for!

Say This: “God, I pray you would restore to me the joy of your salvation and help me to see it’s your gift to me, all I have to do is receive it! Thank you that you’ve created me as your masterpiece and have good works in store for me. Help me to walk in them more and more in 2017. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
