“The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love which comes from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and a sincere faith.” 1 Timothy 1:5
The one thing that consistently speaks the loudest is love. Love is the very thing that Jesus said would be the indicator that we are His. The love of God has been put into our hearts through the Holy Spirit and this is the love that flows through us, as Christians, to others. It is this love that Paul tells Timothy here in 1 Timothy 1:5, that is the very purpose of all instruction. Paul plainly stated at the end of the day, after I have told you how to be a Christian, how to properly run the Church, and how to do a bunch of other things, it is all founded and purposed in love. Today, it is this love that I want us to be reminded of.
This love, God’s love, is so different than any love the world can offer. The world’s love forces itself in, takes what it wants, stays until it feels good, and then moves on after it’s had enough. The love of God, however, is so different than this. God’s love is patient, kind, pure, undefiled, unhindered, and 100% sure. His love is not selfish or self-seeking but is expressed continually without need for performance. His love is not given to receive anything in return but is simply given for the benefit of the receiver. In His love there is no fear, anxiety, or confusion. In fact, it is the love of God manifest that trumps all fears and puts them on the run.
It is this kind of love that I am still being amazed by every single day and learning to fully receive before I can fully express. For God so LOVED the world that He gave...God displayed His love to each and every person by giving the most radical gift in the history of mankind. Although this love was a collective gift to mankind it was completely individual to you and I. With the final breathe of our Savior, Jesus Christ, it was as if the Father declared His love for each and every person in the world once and for all.
It is this kind of love that I believe we can all know and express at a greater degree. No matter how dark the world gets, how evil people seem to be, or how hard your situation looks the purpose of all instruction is love. I believe that it is truly the love of God that will change the world. God’s love is unlike anything the world has experienced. Today, my challenge is for all of us to fall in, sit back, and be overwhelmed once again by the love of God and from the place of knowing His love to share it with those in our world.
Ephesians 3:18-19 (AMP) 18 That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints [God’s devoted people, the experience of that love] what is the breadth and length and height and depth [of it]; 19 [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!
Say It: “Father, thank You for Your love. Thank You for loving me with a love that is far greater than I could ever think or imagine. I ask You today, to once again fill me with Your love and help me know through experience the full dimension of that love. Then, after knowing Your love, help me to express this love to the people in my world. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
