The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" John 1:29
I love the show Undercover Boss! I always get choked up at the end when the employees find out their boss was undercover and then when the boss gives them amazing bonuses, gifts and surprises, I lose it! I happened to watch it last night and when the Boss of Wienerschnitzel gave one of her employees $50,000 and told him she believed in him and that he deserved it, he was in tears and said, "No one has ever told me I deserved anything..." That just choked me up to no end.
I thought, how many people feel that exact same way? So many people feel put down, insignificant and so undeserving.
What if we made it our goal to be like an "undercover boss" to help people around us feel significant, important and like they mattered? What if we encouraged people on behalf of their real Heavenly Father/Boss and recognized the God-quotient––the greatness He has put in them, and what if we believed in them and cheered them on?
That's what John did. When he saw Jesus, he recognized something in Him. He was an "undercover boss," a voice prompted by heaven to discern and recognize the real identity of Jesus. He saw His divine destiny as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. But it didn't stop there, John declared it. He exclaimed for all to hear..."Hey people...I see something and I have to say something! This man right here...look at Him and listen to Him. God is on Him with divine purpose, gifts and callings! Take note..."
We know John had a prophetic role in history as the voice of one calling in the wilderness, “Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God." (Isaiah 40:3) He was a voice calling out on the behalf of another––on the behalf of our Lord, Jesus. What an encouragement that must have been to Jesus as He entered His public ministry and stepped into His calling and purpose! To have a trusted friend like John recognize and call out His divine destiny must have been a great confirmation for Jesus.
I wonder, do you need a friend like John? An "undercover boss" who recognizes the God-quotient in you? Someone who sees your real identity and calls out the destiny and greatness in you?
Perhaps your friends need you to be like John or like an "undercover boss" type of friend for them? Most people don't feel deserving of such encouragement. They are used to people not believing in them. They are accustomed to feeling insignificant and "less than." So, why not be a friend like John? Be a voice calling out the destiny, gifts and callings you see on others. See and declare the hand of God on those around you.
Maybe you need a friend like this? Perhaps you need an "undercover boss" to pour out kudos and goodness on you? Today, hear the voice of your Heavenly Father reminding you that you are His dear child, a gifted person, full of potential, destiny, importance and greatness. You deserve to be valued and encouraged. So today, look up and see God smiling down on you and saying the very words He spoke to Jesus, "You are My Beloved and in you I am well pleased." (And keep your eyes open for the John-like friends God will bring into your life, too!)
Say It: “Father, help me to be a voice calling out the identity and destiny of those around me. Help me to let people know that You believe in them and You see them as valuable, significant and important. Help me to show people that because of Your great love, they are deserving of Your goodness. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”
