"The police captain went with his officers and arrested them (without violence, for they were afraid the people would kill them if they roughed up the disciples) and brought them in before the Council. 'Didn't we tell you never again to preach about this Jesus?' the High Priest demanded. 'And instead you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring the blame for this Man's death on us!' But Peter and the apostles replied, 'We must obey God rather than men.'" Acts 5:26-29, TLB
I love people who are bold as a lion when it comes to their faith in Jesus!
In light of the current headlines, Christian-bashing trend and moral state of our global culture, we believers need to stand up and step out!
We have some great role models to follow. In the passage above, the disciples filled their town with the Name of Jesus and the Word of God, even after the officials told them to quit preaching about Jesus. "We MUST obey God rather than men," they said.
That ought to be our motto as well. It takes courage to obey God. Often, we are tempted to kowtow to gain the approval of men rather than the praise that comes from God. Often, we base our faith on human thinking and political correctness, rather than on God's values as laid out in His Word. All too often, we wimp out when it comes to standing for Christ and His cause.
It's encouraging to see the passion of the upcoming generation of Christian young people, but this world needs more Christians––of all ages––who are willing to stand up and step out. After all, those who are contrary to Christ have no problem standing up––and at times being obnoxious, vicious, loud and intimidating as they slander Christians and Christianity.
Are you ready to take your place as a modern-day disciple willing to obey God rather than seeking the praise of men? Are you ready to lead and influence others towards core Christian values? Are you ready to fill your city with the Name of Jesus and the Word of God?
Let your voice be heard! Rise up! Get busy. Be bold. Find out what God wants you to do and then stand up to the politically correct who desperately want to intimidate and silence Christians. Prove the Christian-bashers wrong by the way you live your life. Overcome evil with good by praying as if your life depended on it. Preach the gospel and spread the Word through every available vehicle––whether printed, audio, video, digital or social media. Take your place as a leader in your school, work or business. Influence the world around you by getting involved in politics, media or ministry.
Jesus had some encouraging things to say to those willing to obey God rather than men:
"Therefore, everyone who acknowledges Me before men and confesses Me [out of a state of oneness with Me], I will also acknowledge him before My Father Who is in heaven and confess [that I am abiding in] him. But whoever denies and disowns Me before men, I also will deny and disown him before My Father Who is in heaven. Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword." (Matthew 10:32-34, AMP)
Say It: “Father, help me to stand up and step out. Help me to obey You, rather than men. Fill me with wisdom and a fresh boldness to share Your Word and take my place as an influencer for Christ! In Jesus' Name, Amen.”
