"For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:30, NKJV
There is something easy about following the Lord. There is ease, a rest, a glide and a flow. It’s as if God’s grace has greased the skids!
On the other hand, have you ever felt like things were just too hard? Like you were pushing? Pulling? Manufacturing? Forcing? Manipulating? Doing all the work? Trying to make it happen? Straining? Striving? Toiling?
Of course! We all know the frustration of trying to do things on our own, in the flesh, in our own energy, zeal, frustration, sadness or madness. And…we all know that none of those methods ever seem to work or produce much fruit.
Jesus said His yoke is easy. I love pondering the word “easy” – it’s so….so…easy! Jesus gave us a little more info on this easy yoke of His.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30, NKJV)
If you’ve been laboring to make something happen, trying to grow your business, find a breakthrough, position yourself in ministry or force things and it’s not been easy, maybe the other half of the yoke is empty? Maybe it’s just you on one half of a yoke that God is not in?
Do yourself a favor, come to Jesus. For some of us, coming to Jesus to find rest and truly enjoy His easy yoke and light burden is a process. It seems like the revelation of coming to Him, taking His yoke and learning from Him takes time. Keep in mind, the idea of "easy" doesn’t mean we become lazy or passive; it just means that we shift the placement of our weight, our trust, our burdens, our cares and our desires on Him. Internally, our spiritual, emotional, mental and even physical turbines wind down and we find our peace, our rest and our ease in Him.
Today…may you find and enjoy “easy.”
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, NKJV)
Say It: “Father, the idea of ‘easy’ makes my heart happy. Today, I come to Jesus and I lay down all my cares, desires, efforts, energies, striving, toiling, works, manufacturing, manipulating, pushing and pulling. I trust You Jesus. I take Your yoke upon me and I thank You that it is easy. Today, I declare My life is defined by ‘easy.’ Things aren’t hard; they are ‘easy’ because of Jesus. In Jesus' Name, Amen.”
