A Healthy Heart

Kelsey Jones

God cares about your heart. He cares about your heart because He deeply loves you, and knows that when your heart is healthy, so are the ins and outs of your life. Proverbs 4:23 tells us to “trust in the Lord with all our heart, for everything we do flows from it.” Your heart is your wishes, your desires, and that which your life centers on. When we have a healthy heart, the outflow of our life is healthy. What does a healthy heart look like? Let’s take a look at a few attributes of a healthy heart:

Guarded by the Peace of God
Proverbs 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
A healthy heart is guarded by the peace of God. Even when you don’t understand circumstances, situations, or emotions - the litmus test for a healthy heart is having the peace of God guarding it. This peace from God goes beyond understanding and enables us to trust God even when circumstances don’t make sense.

Full of Thanks
Psalm 9:1 - I will give thanks to you Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of your wonderful deeds.
A healthy heart is a thankful heart. Have you been thankful lately? God has given us inexpressible gifts through His son Jesus. Gratitude for who God is and how much He loves you can shift your daily perspective and help you have a healthy heart. You know your heart is full of gratitude when you can’t help but speak of God’s wonderful deeds in your life!

Psalm 51:10 - Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew in me a steadfast spirit.
What does a pure heart look like? A heart fully surrendered to Jesus. On our own we will never be able to create a pure heart. We admit our wrongs, that we’re all sinful humans, and we understand that only Jesus can cleanse us of sins. I believe a pure heart before God looks like daily conversations - conversing with God about the highs and the lows, the mountain-tops and the valleys, the good moments and the hurtful. God cares about your heart. He will help and empower your heart to become pure before Him.

God cares about your heart more than you realize!

Let’s pray this together: “Father help me to have a healthy heart. May my heart be guarded by your peace, always thankful, and pure before you. May what flows from my heart be fruitful and pleasing in your sight. My heart is open to be filled with your wisdom and understanding. Thank you for caring so deeply about my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
