Blessed to Be a Blessing

Beth Jones

[I recently wrote a new book: Wealth & Generosity - Living in God’s Economy. This week, I'm sharing short excerpts from the book to encourage you to put God’s principles into practice in your own life!]

“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV)

God wants to help us “get wealth, that He may establish His covenant.” He wants to establish His covenant of mercy, grace, favor, goodness, and blessings both to us and through us! He wants us to be blessed and to be a blessing. He wants His wealth to come to us and to flow through us. He wants His people wealthy and generous. He always has!

Think about what it would look like for boatloads of kingdom-minded Christians to have their needs met, to be wealthy, enjoying life, and living in the black? Not only that, imagine these same Christians with generous spirits just dropping by their local churches to say, “Hey Pastor, we’ve been tithing, sowing and giving, and flowing in God’s economy, and the windows of heaven are open so wide. I’ve got multiple businesses succeeding and more money than I know what to do with. Our family has everything we need, so I just wanted to stop by to pay off the remaining balance on our church building so we could go ahead and get started remodeling the youth center to reach more teens, or go ahead and hire the Kid’s Pastor we’ve been needing. And, while we’re at it, why don’t we send all of our missionaries an extra $10,000 this week? Here’s a check for $800,000. Have a nice day.”

I know that might sound over the top for some. But it’s definitely high time, wouldn’t you say, for large numbers of believers to step into a new jet stream and embrace wealth and generosity. When that happens, watch out world!

This current generation of Millennials (and the upcoming Generation Z) have a huge heart for justice and benevolent causes, and they are willing to pack up and go to all parts of the world to love and help people in need—whether it’s digging water wells, helping widows start micro-businesses, loving orphans, giving dignity to those rescued from the sex-traffic industry, or taking the gospel to the unreached peoples of the earth. They are ready to change the world, and it’s going to take big money to fund these efforts.

The Baby Boomers and Gen X’ers don’t plan to be left out. They are seasoned, experienced, and more than willing to plant churches and start gospel outposts around the world. In order to pioneer and sustain all of these loving gospel efforts on a continual global scale, it takes money—a lot more cash, dough, Benjamins, moola, greenbacks, bitcoins, and gold bars!

All of this means Christians absolutely must get the basics on wealth and generosity! (And all the people said, “A-to-the-men!”)

If we are going to enjoy life, do good, be ready to give and willingly share, we need to get into the flow of God’s economy so that we can be blessed to be a blessing!

Say It: “Father, thank you that is is You Who gives me the power to get wealth in order to establish Your covenant. I ask for wisdom in the area of my own finances and for greater faith to see your gospel spread to all corners of the nation. I ask you to bless me to be a blessing and show me opportunities to be generous to others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
