You Can Do It!

Beth Jones

"Be strong and of good courage, and do it…." 1 Chronicles 28:20, KJV

This is your pep talk. Don't just sit there—you can do it!

Certainly, there is a time to wait on the Lord to renew your strength and to get direction; but then it's time to get busy about the Master's business.

Too many people spend their whole lives waiting for something to happen. They think the ball is in God's court, when often the ball is in our court. As the old saying goes, "God can't move a parked car..." Sometimes, we need to start heading in a direction, get the wheels moving, and then keep our spiritual radar up to see which way the Lord wants us to go.

How long are you going to stay in a job that brings you no joy? How long are you going to date that person you know you'll never marry? How many times are you going to rehash the unfair things that have been done to you? Instead, today, you can shake off all that negativity and get going in a positive direction!

Today really is the first day of the rest of your life. You cannot change the past. You can only change the future. So, be encouraged to forget those things that lie behind and press on toward God's plan for you and your future in Christ!

So, how can you do it?

First, you will have to change your thinking and your words. Start seeing yourself as a person who walks with God and is surrounded by His favor. Start seeing yourself as the person you know God has called you to be. Start talking like that person would talk. You can do it!

Second, you may have to change your friends or other relationships. You’ve heard the phrase, "Show me your friends and I'll show you your future." You will be just like the people you hang with. Look around, is that what you want? If your friends lack vision, are lazy, critical and going nowhere—that is exactly where you will end up. It will not be easy to transition from one group of friends to another, but you can do it!

Third, you will need to change your habits and actions. As the saying goes, "If you do the same things you've always done, you'll have the same results you've always had." You may have to really examine your life, your habits and your actions and then change some things. If you need accountability—tell your parents, pastor, close friend, boss or someone you respect about your new desires and ask them for help in staying the course.  You can do it!

Say It: "Father, I am tired of waiting for my life to start. The clock keeps ticking and I keep ending up nowhere. Help me, Lord, to completely surrender to the lordship of Jesus. Help me to make hard choices, obey You and get moving in the right direction starting today! In Jesus' Name. Amen."
