The Source

Annie Jones

“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19, NLT

There was once a season in my life that I felt like a dry wasteland. I’d been “doing life” in my own will power and through my own strength and knowledge. I made decisions based on calculated assumptions of what I thought God would say and what I thought God would want me to do. I quickly learned that unless you actually go to The Source you’ll be left empty, dry, defeated and disappointed.

Through a series of events, I finally got to a place of complete and total surrender. I finally realized that I hadn’t been depending on Jesus to guide my every step. When I made the choice to put my trust in Him, in every area of my life, there was a peace, hope and confidence that I can’t really describe. It was like a huge weight lifting off. I went to The Source and called on Him for the strength that I needed.

This verse in Isaiah is a verse that spoke to me during this time. I felt like God was saying “Hey Annie, it’s all good, I’m taking care of it. I’ve got your back. Look around, I’m already creating new rivers and pathways for you. Everything is going to get better from here.” And boy did God deliver!

What a difference complete and total surrender makes!

I think it’s important to note that during this season in my life, I hadn’t been living a dishonoring or immoral life. I loved the Lord, I was committed to Him, I did my best to honor Him with my life, but somewhere along the way I decided that I could handle life issues on my own. I didn’t actually GO to the source to fulfill all my needs. I think it’s a trap that all of us, especially those of us who grew up in the church, can fall into. We think that we know enough to handle things on our own, but the reality is – we are all desperately in need of Divine help from an all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving God.

So today, maybe you’re struggling with something, maybe you feel like a dry wasteland… but LOOK! God is about to do something new, He can create a river in the dry wasteland and a clear path in the wilderness, all you have to do is turn to The Source and truly trust in Him.

Say It: "Father, forgive me for the times that I haven’t gone to the Source for my needs. I recognize that I need you. I am in need of your love, direction, guidance, comfort, and peace. Thank you that your Word is tried and true and you are creating new rivers and pathways! I trust in you Lord! In Jesus' Name. Amen."
