Get Planted

Beth Jones

"Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God." Psalm 92:13, NKJV

God wants us to flourish! We flourish when we are planted in the house of the Lord—His Church. We've watched it time and time again—when people get planted in the things that are important to the Lord—He causes them to flourish in every area of their lives.

Unfortunately, we live in a culture where church is put on the back-burner. But, the Bible tells us in Hebrews 10:25, “Let us not stay away from church meetings. Some are doing this all the time. Comfort each other as you see the day of His return coming near.” (NLV)

Here are a few thoughts to help you get planted!

Put Down Roots: "Those who are planted…flourish…." (Ps. 92:13, NKJV) The keyword is: planted! The idea of skipping church isn't God's best—nor is hopping from one church to another each weekend. Instead, get planted! Seriously seek the Lord and determine what church He wants you planted in. Then, jump in with your whole heart, energy, time and contributions. Once you are truly planted and rooted in a church, you can count on God's power to help you flourish in life.

Follow Your Shepherd: "My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me." (John 10:27, NIV) In the same way that we listen to the voice of Jesus, our Chief Shepherd, God will cause us to have ears to hear the voice of the local pastor or shepherd He wants us to follow. Whose voice do you hear? Whose messages, podcasts, books, sermons, materials feed you? We should follow the pastor’s voice of the church we are planted in.

Build The Church: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it." (Malachi 3:10, NIV) If you and your family are being fed and blessed by your local church—you should give back by helping to build the church! How can you help build the church? Be generous with your time, talents and treasure. Volunteer to serve. Bring your tithes and offerings. Support your pastors and church outreach efforts. Be engaged with your whole heart. Invite your friends and family. Be the type of person that is “all-in!”

Say It: "Father, these things are so basic and yet, so true. I want to esteem Your Church like You do. I choose to obey You—to get planted in the local church of the pastor whose voice I hear. I commit to You that I will be glad to give of my time, talents and tithe to contribute to Your Church. I thank You that when I am planted in the house of the Lord, I will flourish. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
