Flip The Faith Switch

Eric Jones

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

There is just something about going “back to the basics” and reminding yourself of the keys to our Christian walk. Over the years, the Lord has really challenged me to do this specifically in the area of faith. Today, I want to take some time to quickly remind and hopefully stir you up in this area.

Faith is the key to living life with the Lord. Without faith we cannot please God and by it we can live in the supernatural. Faith is what points our heart to Jesus and allows us to place our dependency on Him. Faith is seen through our posture and the words we speak. Faith has the ability to create and to reveal things in our life. By faith we are saved, healed, forgiven, loved, victorious, joy filled, and everything else that comes from God. It is all received by faith.

I think so often we make faith too hard. It is true that there is a “fight” to our faith, but I don’t think that it needs to be as difficult as we make it. Faith simply believes that something is, even when it may not seem so. For example - electricity. We know that electricity is always working in a room even when the lights are off. Electricity is always running. It is definitely a real force, but it is not being experienced to the naked eye - until the light switch is turned on. When that switch is flipped, we see electricity in action. This same is true for all of God’s promises. It’s time to flip the faith switch.

I love how this truth is made clear in Elisha’s story in 2 Kings 6. Elisha the prophet is faced with an incredibly scary situation when the King of Aram came against him with a full army of horsemen and soldiers. At first, Elisha’s servant got very fearful and did not know how to respond. It wasn’t until Elisha prayed that God would open the eyes of his servant that he was able to see the full army of God’s angels that were positioned in the mountains ready to protect Elisha.

You see, like Elisha, many times we are faced with overwhelming circumstances. Whether it is a family issue, a financial issue, a relational issue, or something else, it can sometimes seem like an impossible situation. But in those times, the Spirit of Faith rises up and sees, speaks, and believes God’s provision - despite what it may look like on the outside. Because, you see, God’s army was standing on Elisha’s behalf whether he saw it or not, but it wasn’t until he got the perspective of faith that he knew he would be protected. The same is true if you need strength in some area. The Bible declares you can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you. The power is there - you just have to activate it with faith!

My challenge today is simple: How can you walk in the basics of faith? What is one area in your life that needs to be activated by faith? Find that area and attack it with the truth of God’s Word.

Say It: "Father, I thank You that You set up life with You to be experienced by faith. I ask that You would help me to see how I can walk in faith in different areas of my life. And Lord, I pray that you would fill me with faith as I hear and hear and hear Your Word. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
