Pray For The President

Beth Jones

"The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live." 1 Timothy 2:1-3, Message

Today is a big day for America. We inaugurate Donald J. Trump as our 45th President of The United States. Millions will be in attendance and watching on television as President Trump takes his oath of office and places his hand on the same Bible that Abraham Lincoln used for his swearing in more than 150 years ago.

Today, we as Christians – whether we voted for the Trump ticket or not – have a responsibility to pray for him as our President. After all the pomp and circumstance of this weekend’s ceremonies and celebrations is over, when President Trump sits in the Oval Office for the first time – no doubt, he will covet the prayers of believers everywhere.

What type of things should we pray? The Bible gives us several prayers that are God-anointed and Spirit-inspired and we can be certain that the Lord will answer these prayers. So, let's do it! Pray these Scripture-based prayers and insert Donald Trump’s name into each one as you pray.

“I have not stopped giving thanks for you – President Trump – remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you – President Trump – the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, – as President of the United States – the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe…" (Ephesians 1:16-19, NIV)

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, – Donald Trump – we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you – and all the believers in America – may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might…” (Colossians 1:9-11, NIV)

Say This: "Father, thank You for hearing my prayers today for our new President. I pray You fill all those who serve in government with Your wisdom to further Your purposes. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
