A Clean Slate

Jeff Jones

"No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.” Philippians 3:13 NLT

My dad taught me a lot about life. The start of each year brings to mind one of the most important principles he ever taught me. It’s the principle of starting each new year with what he called, a clean slate. He would say that no matter how good, or how bad the past year was, it was over, for the books. Because the new year is not determined by what’s behind, but by the potential of what lies ahead.

How was your 2016? Was it a good year or a challenging one? I’m personally acquainted with some folks who had a fantastic year, but also know some other folks who faced some real obstacles. But the one thing they both have in common is the principle of a the clean slate. Regardless of their past, they can each look ahead with great anticipation to what is possible in the new year ahead.

Let’s look forward and believe together to experience our best year ever! Actually, God’s got some good things to say about His plans for us: “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

As we shift our focus on the bright future that’s ahead in 2017, let’s trust God to help us do some new things. Things that help us reach our potential and beyond. I’ll leave you with a great verse to consider as we begin this new year: "For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness.  I will create rivers in the dry wasteland." Isaiah 43:19 NLT

The slate is clean today - so go for it, your future is extremely bright!

Say This: “Father, thank You for giving me a bright future, I believe that 2017 will be my best year ever. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!”
