Enlarging And Expanding

Beth Jones

"Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left…." Isaiah 54:2-3, NKJV

Have you ever blown up a balloon for the first time? That's always the hardest. Once it's been blown up and the air has been let out, it's easier to blow it up the next time. Have you ever blown up a balloon until it popped? All of these things describe the idea of "enlarging and expanding."

Sometimes, we are the balloon and God is the One blowing us up to enlarge and expand us to our maximum capacity! Felt like a balloon lately?

When the Lord wants to take us to the next level of growth, impact or influence—He has to enlarge our capacity for EVERYTHING! He has to expand our capacity for stress and pressure; for dealing with multiple, simultaneous issues, problems, deadlines and challenges; for endurance, perseverance and not for popping!

The first time God begins to blow up our balloons to expand our capacity, it's hard. We feel stretched to the gills and almost as if we are going to blow a gasket! We wonder if we can take any more pressure. We can—because God is faithful and He will never expect more of us than we are able to handle; although at times, it can feel that way. When the Lord starts to inflate our balloons, He's at work expanding our ability to do more, to handle more, to lead more, to fulfill more, to impact more and to influence more for His purposes.

So, have you sensed the Lord stretching you lately? Have you felt like God is blowing up your balloon and you're being stretched? If so, be encouraged—He's preparing you for what He's prepared for you! You won't explode! You're heading into a season of greater impact and influence. He's enlarging your capacity for big things.

God needs people with larger capacities. He really does. He needs people who can spin more than one plate without having a meltdown. He needs people who can handle some pressure without quitting. He needs people who can care for more than just their own needs or the needs of their own families. He needs people who can endure the heat, pace, problems, demands and challenges of serving God. If you're in a hard season where God is blowing up your balloon, hang in there and remember—you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!

Say This: "Father, expand and enlarge my capacity! I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I thank You for grace for the pace. I thank You that You will never give me more than I can handle, but You are preparing me for what You are preparing for me. I believe it and I trust You. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
