Keep It Simple

Beth Jones

"But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." 2 Corinthians 11:3, NKJV

I am so glad that the Lord is not complex. He keeps it simple! Rest in this: there is simplicity in Christ.

Sometimes, we are tempted to think that if we don’t understand all of the Greek, Hebrew, theological arguments, historical context and every hermeneutical law of Biblical interpretation, we won’t be able to understand the deep things of God. But, that’s not the case. In fact, Jesus did not intend to be confusing. The religious people of His day, the doctors of the Law, the Pharisees and Sadducees tried to muddy the waters and make God formal, religious and mystifying, but we know Jesus ruined that whole philosophy. He keeps it simple. God always meets us right where we are at.

When you start to get worked up about how much you know or how deep you can go, remember this -- Jesus is a Person, not a subject. He's personal, not a research project.

The beauty of the Lord is that He makes the most wisdom-laden realities – simple! Take redemption, for example, when you study God's eternal plan for man it's absolutely amazing. But, even if you don't fully understand all the mechanics of your Great Salvation, you can still enjoy the experience of all that redemption means. You can have a personal, life-filled relationship with the Lord God Almighty. Jesus is our Redeemer. We know Him and that's enough!

Think about it this way. Perhaps, you don't understand all the inner workings of the engine in your car. You might think that pistons, carburetors and mufflers sound like a great new salad. Good news – you don't need to know all the mechanics, just enjoy the simplicity of putting your key in the ignition and driving to your desired destination!

If you've tried to make the whole Christian thing too complex and confusing, I hope you can take a deep breath and relax in this revelation a little bit today. You don't have to impress anyone with deep theological speak; just take pleasure in the reality of your personal relationship with the Lord – in all of its simplicity!

“...To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less.” Colossians 1:28, MSG

Say This: “Father, I am so glad that You've made it simple. Jesus, today I am not going to worry about all the things I don't know or understand -- instead, I am going to focus on enjoying the simplicity of just knowing You as my Lord and very best friend. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
