Others

Beth Jones

"Don't think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing." Philippians 2:4, NLT

In his final address to the officers of the Salvation Army, the founder, William Booth, stood before his audience and said, "Others" and sat down. One word -- but what a speech! And what a great reminder to us!

Being interested in others is a lost art these days. We all get so consumed with our own affairs, busyness, details, schedules and checklists that we forget it's really not about us. I don't know how it works…but somehow when we put others first, God has a way of putting us first on His list.

Being interested in others will make you a member in a very small club! In fact, the key to being an interesting person yourself is this: be interested in others! One easy way to start is to show an interest in what people around you are doing.. What challenge are they facing? What project are they working on? What joy or accomplishment have they achieved?

Today, who in your world needs your attention? Who needs a visit? A phone call? A note? A lunch date with you? Take some intentional steps to show an interest in others -- and share the love of Jesus along the way!

Say This: "Father – it's not all about me! It's about others. Help me to remember that today. Help me to ask questions of those around me. I ask You for Your help, Lord, so that I can become genuinely interested in others and show them Your love. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
