Bucket List

Beth Jones

"Tell those who are rich not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which will soon be gone, but their pride and trust should be in the living God who always richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give happily to those in need, always being ready to share with others whatever God has given them. By doing this they will be storing up real treasure for themselves in heaven – it is the only safe investment for eternity! And they will be living a fruitful Christian life down here as well." 1 Timothy 6:17-19, TLB

Have you made a bucket list? What do you want to do? Start? Finish? Try?

I believe there are two sides to the "coin of life" that God wants us to see. This passage describes the two sides to this coin and gives us food-for-thought for our own bucket lists.

Heads: Effectiveness! God wants you to invest your life. What will your life amount to? Who have you helped? Influenced for eternity? I hope that you've already made a decision to invest your temporary life – time, energy, money, gifts, talents – into eternal things. I hope you are living a purposeful life of "no regrets" to glorify the Lord – be rich in good deeds, generous and willing to share Christ and your abundance with others.

Tails: Enjoyment! God wants to bless your life! God gives us all things richly to enjoy. Sometimes, we have a hard time accepting the fact that the Lord wants us to enjoy a blessed life with no apologies – but He does! When we seek first His kingdom and His priorities – He gives us richly all kinds of things for our enjoyment.

So, the idea is to live for 'heads' and enjoy 'tails! Make sense? So, go ahead -- get started making your bucket list today!

Say This: "Father, help me to create a bucket list that reflects your desires. Help me to maximize my temporary life with effectiveness for Your eternal purposes. Thank You that when I live for Your purposes, You give me rich blessings to enjoy! Thank You that when I live for 'heads;' You find a way to overload me with 'tails.' In Jesus' Name. Amen."
