I Will Build My Church

Beth Jones

"…upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Matthew 16:18, KJV

Jesus loves the Church -- and He is busy building it! Jesus declared it some 2,000 years ago and His Words shall come to pass.

Satan hates the Church. The enemy doesn't want any church to grow or prosper because the Church represents people who find, follow and exalt Jesus Christ. When people connect with Jesus and His Word – they are set free and empowered by God's Spirit. The enemy hates this!

So, what about you? Where do you stand?

I hope you're one of the people who can boldly declare your love for His Church and are using your energies to build His Church around the world!

However, some believers can't say that. They have developed a distaste or indifference towards the Lord's Church over the years. We've heard many stories – stories of how the church hurt or offended them at some point in their lives; the pastor or a church leader was not there for them in a time of need; the sermon stepped on their toes; they were asked to serve in nursery instead of lead a small group, etc. Most of these situations are the result of unintentional human error and sadly, the enemy has used these little foxes to spoil the vine for them (see: Song of Songs 2:15).

As pastors for 26+ years, we will be the first to admit that there is no such thing as a perfect church -- only a Perfect Jesus! So, the question remains, "Are you helping Jesus build His Church?"

If you've been in a "church funk" lately, perhaps, it's time to give the enemy a kick in the teeth! Make a decision to forget things that lie behind, and in some cases, forgive. Listen…the Church needs you! Every person is important to God's plan, so why not get back into the very thing that is front and center on Jesus' heart – His Church!

Say This: "Father, I love what You are doing on the earth! I believe Your Church is front and center on Your heart. Jesus, I choose to love what You love. I dedicate myself to helping You build Your Church – through attending, praying, serving, and giving. Lord, use me in whatever way You see fit. Help me to humble myself so that my gifts can be maximized for the building of Your Church. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
