God's Diary

Beth Jones

"Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who meditate on His name." Malachi 3:16, NKJV

Here’s just one reason I can’t wait to get to heaven -- I want to see God’s library! The Bible describes the variety of books in God's library to include: a Book of Remembrance, a Book of Tears, books describing The Days of Our Lives, the Book of Works and the most important book, The Book of Life, also known as the Lamb's Book of Life. (This is one book you want to be sure your name is in...check out Revelation 20:11-15 for more details on that book.)

All the books intrigue me, but the Book of Remembrance is particularly interesting because it's the book that records all of our conversations about the Lord! God is taking minutes of our meetings. It's like He's keeping a diary! Isn't that amazing? Think about all the chats you've had with people about Jesus, His Word and life in God. Think about those with whom you've shared Christ, those you've encouraged in the faith, those you've prayed with and on and on. God is writing a memory book including all those conversations!

The Message and New Living translations of the Bible describe this book:

"Then those whose lives honored God got together and talked it over. God saw what they were doing and listened in. A book was opened in God's presence and minutes were taken of the meeting, with the names of the GOD-fearers written down, all the names of those who honored God's name." (Malachi 3:16, Message)

"Then those who feared and loved the Lord spoke often of him to each other. And he had a Book of Remembrance drawn up in which he recorded the names of those who feared him and loved to think about him." (Malachi 3:16, TLB)

Be encouraged this week. God is listening and taking good notes as you talk about the Lord with family, friends and strangers in cafés, cars, planes, parks, meetings and over meals!

Say This: "Father, what a cool thought to know that You are writing a Book of Remembrance that includes all the conversations I've had about You with others. I can't wait to see Your big library when I get to Heaven. I am so glad I'll have eternity to read the volumes You have written about Your people over the ages. Today, may the words of my mouth and meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
