A Work In Progress

Jennifer Cole

“...God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5, NKJV

Here’s what I love about people - we’re all so different and we’re all works in progress!

One tip for handling our “work in progress” condition? Stay humble! Choosing to stay humble positions us to hear from God and others who God uses to speak into our lives.

The Bible has many examples of people who started out with humility, but then stopped listening to wise advice and tried to do it all in their own wisdom. You can read about Saul’s example in 1 Samuel 15. There’s no doubt that God was able to anoint Saul to be king because he was humble, but then Saul faced some troubles when he stopped listening and decided to take things into his own hands. Let’s not let that same thing be said about us!

Being humble doesn’t mean ignoring that God made you exquisite and filled you full of gifts and talents. But, it does mean recognizing that all of those gifts come from Him, so He gets the credit! Let’s resolve in our hearts to stay humble and remain teachable as a way of life, and let’s trust God to keep working on us - because in the end, we’re all a work in progress!

Say This: “Father, thank You for putting people in my life who are able to speak into my life. I want to have ears to hear and to keep growing up in my faith and my relationship with You. You are the source of all of my gifts and talents, and I thank You for blessing me. I want to become all that You have created me to be, so I choose to stay humble as a way of life, and I believe that You’ll give me much grace as I continue to be a work in progress. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
