The Power of Consistency

Jennifer Cole

“Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts. Don’t talk out of both sides of your mouth…” Prov 4:23-24, Message

As we are embracing the beginning of this brand new year, it’s a great time to pause a moment and take inventory of our lives based on a key word...congruent.

Congruent means to be consistent, in agreement and identical. When applied to our “public” lives versus our “private” lives, this becomes a super important word. After all, we should be the same person in public who we are in private. What does a congruent lifestyle look like? If we lead people to the Lord from the pulpit or when people are watching, we should be proactive about leading people to the Lord in our private lives, too. If we pray tear-filled, passionate prayers in leading a prayer meeting, we ought to pray the same way in our private prayer closet. If we suggest to everyone else to tithe and give to the gospel, we should be leading the charge by tithing and giving as much or more.

It’s not healthy to live life one way in front of others, and live a different way in our private life. We shouldn’t talk out of both sides of our mouth. We each need to be wholly who we are for Christ -- no matter who is or isn’t watching. That congruent lifestyle will bring more peace to your life overall -- and, it will increase your impact for Christ because your life will be such a strong, consistent testimony!

Sometimes it’s obvious to us where we need to increase our congruence -- and at other times we may have a blind spot that we need help seeing. I encourage you to seek the Lord for His grace and wisdom either way! Through our congruent lifestyle, let’s make 2018 the year we have an even greater impact on our sphere of influence for Christ!

Say This: “Father, I desire to have my life be a great testimony of Your love, goodness and blessings. Please help me be a stronger testimony through being fully congruent in my public and private life. If there are any areas where I can become more congruent, please make those visible to me -- and I lean on and require Your grace and wisdom to bring those areas into alignment with all the best You have for me! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
