Edit Your Life

Beth Jones

"GOD rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to His eyes." Psalm 18:24, Message

Ever wanted a do-over? Ever wanted to rewrite chapters of your life? Ever wanted to hit "delete" on seasons you've been through? Ever wondered if God even had a plot for your life?

Good news…you can and He does! Perhaps, you've had seasons where you tried to write chapters of your life without the Lord and you ended up with a dark thriller. You can start over. It's not over for you. When we walk with the Lord, He writes and rewrites the text of our lives which means good things are ahead for you.

How? How does God edit, transform and rewrite the text of our lives? He told us how in Romans 12:1-2, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."

The editing process starts with offering ourselves to God and being surrendered to Him and His purposes. Then the big transformation (editing and rewriting) comes through the renewing our minds. When we renew our minds with God's thoughts, we will be transformed day by day. The "renewing of our minds" means to reprogram our minds with God's Word or to renovate our minds with the truth from God. When we renew our minds – He transforms our lives.

In real life that means...we make a choice to give our attention to His Word day and night. We intentionally study the Bible to learn and understand more about God and how He operates. We make time to soak in His Word and discover the laws by which His kingdom works and how to cooperate with them. We purposefully read the Bible to really get to know the character and Person of our Father, Jesus and the wonderful Holy Spirit. When we do that, God does the work of editing, rewriting and transforming us!

Simple. Profound. Supernatural.

Say This: "Father, I open my heart to You. I surrender to You. I need a do-over and some serious 'editing' in areas of my life. I ask You to Help me as I choose to renew my mind to Your Word. Thank You for rewriting the text of my life. Thank You for editing my future. Thank You for transformation! In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Peace Rules

Beth Jones

"…let the peace of God rule in your hearts…." Colossians 3:15, NKJV

Is your heart troubled? Anxious? Agitated? Let peace rule today. Jesus told us we could.

Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27, NKJV

Unfortunately, for many people, living in strife, anxiety, agitation and fear is a way of life. Peace is the oddity. Jesus wants to turn that around in your life. The ability to live in peace can be a way of life. In fact, we can get so used to living in peace – it's an oddity to experience anxiety, a troubled heart, strife or fear.

Sometimes, we'll have to "force" ourselves to surrender to peace. We have to choose to "let peace rule" – because at times our minds are filled with fear, overload, frustration and any number of "peace robbers."

Peace comes from keeping our minds on the Lord and His Word. "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." Isaiah 26:3, NKJV

If you need Jesus' peace to rule your heart today, set your mind on Him. Don't allow any thought that is contrary to His character and His Word to have any place in your mind. The result? God's perfect peace will rule!

Say This: "Father, thank You for perfect peace. I choose to surrender all of my anxious, fear-filled, agitating thoughts to You right now. I fix my mind on Jesus. You are good, You can be trusted, and You are bigger than anything I am facing. Peace…rule my heart! In Jesus' Name. Amen."

The Basics Of Innovation

Beth Jones

“I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.” Proverbs 8:12 (KJV)

In today’s “basic thought” podcast, I’m talking about the basics of innovation! This podcast is a quick thought I wanted to share with you as a follow up to the conversation I shared with Amy Schafer, pastor at Grace Life Church in Pittsburgh, last week on marketplace ministry.

We all get "ideas" that pop into our heads from time to time, but how do you know when it's your idea or a God-given idea? I hope you’ll be encouraged to think outside of the box and learn how to listen to the Holy Spirit's innovative leading - an advantage you have as a Christian!

The Resistance

Beth Jones

"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." James 4:7, NKJV

Has the devil been bothering you? Resist him! Put him on the run. Make him flee! When the enemy comes knocking on your door—resist him. When he tries to throw thoughts of fear, discouragement, anger, temptation or other things your way—resist him.

The devil is persistent. He usually starts his efforts with a thought—called a "fiery dart." He watches to see what we will do. If we give him any attention, he continues to throw thoughts our way with the hopes that he can penetrate our shield of faith—and ultimately steal, kill and destroy areas of our lives.

For example, a thought like this may come to you: "God isn't real; why do you even believe in Him?" If we listen to these words and mull over this thought—rather than resist—the devil will gain the upper hand and those thoughts will turn to imaginations, arguments, reasonings and, ultimately, strongholds that hinder us.

So, what do we do? One of the best ways to resist the devil is with silence. Don't even acknowledge the thoughts he throws your way. Don't even give them a voice. Don't say what he says. Instead, say what God says. When the enemy throws a thought your way—just quote the Word of God on the topic.

For example, if the thought about God's existence comes to you, rather than even acknowledge that thought—you simply say, "Whoever comes to God must believe He exists and He is the rewarder of them who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). God's eternal qualities are revealed to me through His creation (Romans 1:20). Though I have not seen Him, I love Him and I am filled with inexpressible joy (1 Peter 1:8)!"

When we do these things, we have effectively submitted to God, quenched the fiery darts of the enemy and resisted the devil! And, he will flee from you!

Say This: "Father, I submit to You and Your Word. I will resist the devil every time he throws a thought or a fiery dart my way. I know that when I resist him with Your Word, he must flee! In Jesus' Name. Amen."
