Now THIS Is Inspiring

Jennifer Cole

"The queen of Sheba heard about Solomon...She came to put his reputation to the test by asking tough questions. She made a grand and showy entrance into Jerusalem – camels loaded with spices, a huge amount of gold, and precious gems. She came to Solomon and talked about all the things that she cared about, emptying her heart to him. Solomon answered everything she put to him – nothing stumped him. When the queen of Sheba experienced for herself Solomon's wisdom and saw with her own eyes the palace he had built, the meals that were served, the impressive array of court officials and sharply dressed waiters, the lavish crystal, and the elaborate worship extravagant with Whole-Burnt-Offerings at the steps leading up to The Temple of God, it took her breath away. She said to the king, "It's all true! Your reputation for accomplishment and wisdom that reached all the way to my country is confirmed. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself; they didn't exaggerate! Such wisdom and elegance – far more than I could ever have imagined. Lucky the men and women who work for you, getting to be around you every day and hear your wise words firsthand! And blessed be God, your God, who took such a liking to you and made you king..." 1 Kings 10:1-9, Message

The Queen of Sheba’s response to King Solomon’s kingdom gives us a modern-day target to hit. She reminds us that the spirit of excellence makes a BIG difference! She proves that it’s worth it when we pay attention to details -- when we check and re-check the things we are responsible for.

She inspires us to pay attention to specific things like: being a person, a government, a church or a business where wisdom abounds. She motivates us to take care of our facilities and create an environment where we can preach the Message to all who visit. She helps us give attention to small things like the food we serve and the way it’s presented; the clothing we wear and the style we carry; not to mention the quality of and care we give to the supplies, utensils, and equipment we use.

Most notably, she helps us to focus on the most important thing: the elaborate and extravagant worship we give to the Lord. She reminds us that when we carry a spirit of excellence in all that we do, including our worship of God – it leaves people breathless!

How are you doing in the excellence area...in your personal life? Your leadership? Your business? Your ministry? Are the areas of oversight you are responsible for known for excellence? Does your work take people’s breath away? Do people marvel at the way you think things through -- not leaving any stone unturned? Are people “wowed” by the quality of your work and the attention you give to details?

Does the Queen of Sheba inspire you? Today -- why not take an inventory of the areas of your life that could use some attention. Check and re-check. Give God your very best and allow the spirit of excellence to reign in and through your life. When you do...your life, work, and ministry will leave people breathless!

Say This: “Father, I thank You for the inspiration I’ve received from the Queen of Sheba’s story. I want the spirit of excellence to be upon all that I do and all that I am responsible for. Help me to pay attention to every detail and to give my very best so that people are left ‘breathless’ by a level of excellence that glorifies You, Lord! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Suddenly!

Beth Jones

"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly, there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose." Acts 16:25-27, NIV

Do you need a big change? Need supernatural doors to open up for you? Need some chains to fall from your life? Need something to happen "suddenly?" Start praying! Keep singing!

Paul and Silas were in their midnight hour – the time when things looked the bleakest. After a day of accusations and being stripped, beaten, flogged, placed in the innermost prison cell and chained in stocks, most of us would be severely depressed, scared and defeated. Not Paul and Silas…they busted out with prayer and singing songs to God so loud the other prisoners heard them.

Can you imagine the scenario? It's almost as if they said, "What do we have to lose? Things can't get any worse…so let's just let everyone within earshot know that there is a glorious God in heaven. If they kill us…oh well, we'll get to be with Jesus that much sooner." And off they went singing and praying…"Oh, we worship You God of heaven and earth. We praise Your glorious Name. We pray for our enemies…open their eyes, Lord…" and then suddenly…

Suddenly there was a big shake-up! A shift. A change. Foundations were rocked. Doors flew open. EVERYBODY'S chains fell off.

What a picture! God is into "suddenlies!" He can change your life, circumstances, location, relationships, situation and future in a millisecond! If you're facing a midnight hour and you need a change…a major shift…open doors and freedom from chains – get your praise on today in a big, loud way!

Say This: "Father, I shout Your praise! You are the Most High God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. Jesus, I worship You as the Lord of Lords – my Redeemer, Savior, Healer and King. Holy Spirit, I praise You as my Helper, Strengthener, Counselor, Comforter and Guide. I worship You, Lord God Almighty. In Jesus' Name. Amen."

In Spirit And In Truth

Beth Jones

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24, NIV

The Father is on the lookout for true worshipers - people who are sincere and heartfelt in their worship! True worshipers worship Him with their entire lives including their walk with Him, their prayer life, their singing and their service toward Him and others.

A true worshiper is someone who knows how to give God the heartfelt reverence He deserves according to the truth of His Word. In other words, they worship God the way He prefers to be worshiped, not the way they want to worship. It's an interesting thing to consider…

So, how does God want to be worshiped? Jesus said the Father is seeking those who worship Him in spirit and truth. That is, they give the Lord heartfelt worship by reverencing the truth of Who He is and what He has done.

This week, our staff spent our morning devotional time worshiping the Lord together. We went “old school” with our playlist and listened to worship music by Keith Green, Steve Green, Second Chapter Of Acts -- and even Tina Turner! Yes, we got stirred up by the song “Help” by Tina Turner to reach hurting and lost people!

I encourage you to spend some time in worship to the Lord this weekend. Get your playlist set with oldies or current music that connects your heart to God and worship him in spirit and in truth!

Say This: “Father, I want to be a true worshiper. Lord, I worship You with all my heart. I give you the profound reverence You deserve. You are God alone. I worship You in spirit and in truth. I love You Lord. I honor You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen”

United In Prayer

Beth Jones

"Then all the believers were united as they lifted their voices in prayer…" Acts 4:24, NLT

There is something so powerful about praying together with a group of like-hearted people. When we come together to lift our voices and magnify the Lord – He shows up and inhabits the praises of His peeps! "But Thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel." (Psalm 22:3, KJV)

When we come together to ask Him for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven – He sets things in motion! "Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10, NKJV)

When we come together and get in agreement in prayer – He hears us and promises it shall be done for us by our Father in heaven! "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (Matthew 18:19-20, NKJV)

I encourage you to be a person of prayer and – for your benefit and the advancement of the Lord’s plans and purposes – get involved with prayer opportunities together with fellow believers at your church. There is nothing like the power of unity and faith that is expressed when people who love Jesus and desire His will come together to shout, praise, pray and do Kingdom business!

"Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 15:6, NLT)

I’m so grateful we serve a God who hears and answers the faith-filled prayers of His people!

Say This: "Father, I thank You for people who pray! What a joy to be united with others through Christ. I thank You that when two or more of us come together in Jesus Name to ask and agree – You hear, show up, set things in motion and perform Your Word. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
