PEOPLE WITH A DEEP WELL DO WELL

Jennifer Cole

Have you ever known a person who just seems to be “unsinkable?” Someone with true-blue faith, who seems to walk above the waves in a stormy season, who seems to rebound no matter what the setback, who seems calm, cool and collected despite the drama happening around them?

>>I would guess they have a DEEP WELL.

If you’re craving that kind of life for yourself -- get a deep well! A deep well comes from spending time with the Lord, meditating upon His Word, seeking Him in prayer, resting in His love, listening to His voice, trusting His guidance, following His prompts, serving His cause, and loving what He loves.

When you have a deep well, He continually fills you with rivers of living water that refresh you while you refresh others. So no matter what life throws at you or what situations are “draining” your water -- when you have rivers of His water pouring in, you never run out! And, you have an abundance that will help refresh others too.

We see Jesus mention these rivers of living water in John 7:37-38: “On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’’”

Ask the Lord today to help you deepen your well –- and then bust out that Bible, get to praying, follow His lead -- and get those living waters flowing!

Say This: “Father, thank You for rivers of living water! Help me to deepen my well, so I can do well in life no matter the circumstances. May I be refreshed in You and also help refresh others. Thank You that You guide me, fill me, lead me and love me! In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

HOPE, JOY & MOCHAS

Jennifer Cole

As someone who lives in Michigan, I am acutely aware that later this week it “officially” becomes winter. I love my state and my city, but there are certain things about this particular season that are not my favorite y’all...like snow, ice, cold temps...okay, that’s pretty much the next 3 months here! Now, I do like to ski and do other fun winter activities to help me enjoy some aspects of this season. But truth be told, what really gets me through this season is what’s on the other side.

You see, spring and summer in Michigan are absolutely, hands-down incredible! And, everyone becomes super outdoorsy...hiking, biking, boating, you name it...and it’s probably because we are extra grateful that it’s so nice out!

Not only is winter season upon us, but also the holiday season. For some people, the holidays come with the same sort of dread or “survival mode” mentality that winter can bring for many of us. Maybe you’ve lost a loved one and the holidays have that twinge of pain now. Maybe you thought you’d be married by now, with 3 kids and a dog, and each holiday you feel sad as that vision of a family gathered around a dining room table is still just a dream. Or, any other host of reasons that people can feel “blue” in the holiday season.

But, I want to encourage you today with the two things that help me get through winter because they can also help you successfully navigate this holiday season -- first, find things you enjoy and do them! And secondly, stir up the hope of the joy that’s on the other side of this season.

So, first -- what are some things you enjoy at the holidays? Do you love Christmas music? Play it shamelessly, anytime, anywhere -- and sing along! Do you love the community spirit that seems to shine so vibrantly around the holidays? Help out at a soup kitchen, provide a holiday dinner to a family in need, or ring a bell for the Salvation Army. There are so many ways to get involved and it’s so uplifting to help others.

And, it doesn’t always have to be big things...what are the little things you enjoy around the holidays? If it’s the peppermint mocha that pops up this time of year, indulge in one! Wrap up with a mocha, a fuzzy blanket and a new book to read. When you focus on the pieces you DO enjoy -- whether they’re big or small -- it will help you navigate this season successfully to the other side.

And secondly, let’s remember how absolutely vital HOPE is! Remind yourself of the great Bible promises that God gives us about hope, such as: “...Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5 NLT). I also like how the Message translation shares that same verse: “...The nights of crying your eyes out give way to days of laughter.”

You see, in life we will all go through seasons...both the natural ones we endure due to where we live, but also the seasons of life. The Lord knows we’ll go through seasons. We read in His Word: “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:... A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance” (Ecclesiastes 3:1,4 NKJV).

>>The key to navigating through a season that’s difficult is to remember that it’s just that...a season. Temporary. Not forever. And, with the Lord we know the best is yet to come!

You can do this...with the Lord’s help you can find things you enjoy about any season you’re in, and He’ll also help you hold tightly to the hope of the joy He has in store for you after you’ve endured. Friends, I’m praying for all of you who may be struggling in this season. Remember that God is on your side and He has joy prepared for you -- keep your heart and life centered on Him, and then truly the best is yet to come!

Say This: “Father, thank You for always being with me and for me, no matter what season I’m in. Thank You that when I’m in a difficult season, You help me find enjoyable things that can help me endure that season. And, You fill me with incredible hope for the bright future and blessings ahead, which helps me stay strong through this tough season. Thank You that You’re always by my side and for Your great love for me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

A Deep Breath

Jennifer Cole

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think He’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do His best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way He works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how He works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” Matthew 6:30-33 MSG

Today, my encouragement to you is simple -- pause right now, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing -- and take a deep breath.

Read the verse above, and then read it again out loud. Read it a third time, out loud again, but this time put your name in it anywhere it says “you.” Make it personal! This is God’s Word, living and active, breathing fresh wind into your life today.

Feel the rest and peace that comes from knowing that He is caring for you! Keep this reality tucked into your heart and see what a difference it will make in your day.

Say This: "Father, thank You for loving me so completely -- for attending to me, taking pride in me and doing Your best for me. Help me to put You first in everything I do today, and I trust You to meet all of my everyday human concerns. You love me, and You are well able to take care of all of my needs! In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

What Are Angels Doing?

Jennifer Cole

"The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them." Psalm 34:7, NKJV

I love this truth! There is an invisible kingdom – all around us – and angels are realities in the unseen world. And, isn’t it cool that God has specifically assigned angels to protect those who fear Him? Despite memes you may have seen, angels are not sitting on clouds, strumming harps all day! So what are they doing? Let's take a look at three encouraging things the Bible tells us about angels:

Angels Protect Us: God has commanded His angels to protect us. "For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go." (Psalm 91:11, NLT) What a comfort! No matter where you go, you are surrounded by angels!

Angels Serve Those Who Are Saved: God has sent His angels to serve those who have accepted the free gift of salvation. How great is that? "...Angels are only servants – spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation." (Hebrews 1:14, NLT) They help us carry out God's will in our lives!

Angels Respond To God’s Word: God's Word is living and active, and angels are “dispatched” into action by the sound of God's Word. "Praise the LORD, you His angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey His word." (Psalm 103:20, NIV) So, when we speak God’s Word out in faith – angels obey His Word and jump to action!

Today, be encouraged – as a Christ follower, you have the special benefit of God's army of angels performing God's Word, protecting and caring for you! Wow!

Say This: "Father, I thank You that the angels of the Lord protect me and my loved ones wherever we go. I thank You that Your angels are sent to minister and care for me. And, I thank You that Your Word is living and active, and that angels go into action as soon as they hear Your Word. I believe that angels are on assignment to care for me today! In Jesus' Name. Amen."

Strong Tower

Beth Jones

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." Proverbs 18:10, NKJV

Need a safe place? A place of refuge? Strength? The Name of the Lord is a strong tower…and this Scripture tells us to run to it!

Though the enemy may roar, the storms may blow, the waves may rage, the winds may howl, the earth may shake – still the Name of Jesus is our safe place! His Name is the name above every name. Jesus is the Name at which everything else bows.

If fear, anxiety, distress, depression or other things are trying to harass you – run to your strong tower and He will lift you up, high above it all! The Amplified Bible gives us a more "amplified" understanding of this verse: "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong."

Be encouraged today - the name of the Lord is a strong tower!

Say This: "Father, I run to You today. I run right into the Name of Jesus, my strong tower! I declare that I am safe, free from the enemy, storms, fear, anxieties and distress. Jesus is the Name above all Names and I thank You for lifting me up to a safe and strong place, high above all evil. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
